Today I'm sharing easy to make West Elm inspired stocking holders that were made entirely with scraps from my workshop! Here's how the project got started...Last year I built this mantle for my electric fireplace... While I was building the mantle, I was thinking how adorable it would look with Christmas stockings hanging from it.
The scale of the mantle is small, so when I found these mini stockings at Target, I knew they were the perfect size. I got them home, put them up to the fireplace and said... "oh yeah, how am I gonna hang these things?"
I don't buy, I build, so I searched for stocking holder ideas I could make myself. After I scrolled for a bit I thought... "why don't I just design my own holder?" I liked the idea of a house or village. Then I googled "house stocking holder" and immediately found my inspiration. The search led me to this metal house stocking holder from West Elm.
Here's what I came up with. It's not an exact replica of the West Elm stocking holder, it's more of a metal look silhouette.
Unlike the single house West Elm version, my collection includes four buildings.
First I cut four bases and four buildings, then attached the buildings to the bases.
Then I disassembled and labeled the parts, so the parts could be painted.
The parts were prepped for paint...
And sprayed with a coat of flat black paint...
A coat of metallic paint approximates the look of the West Elm version.
The holders were reassembled once the paint was dry.
All that was left was to place the holders on the mantle and hang the stockings with care :)
