Gilding Furniture

I recently learned how to add gilding to furniture, and it's fairly easy! Gilding can be a beautiful accent and the final touch to transforming your piece.

After painting my bench and allowing appropriate dry time, I could begin the gilding process.

I added size (adhesive) to the sections I wanted to gild.

The gold leaf I used come in booklets.

While I was waiting for my size to dry to tack (so the gold leaf would adhere properly), I cut down my book of gold to the size I needed it to be.

Once my size had dried to tack, I was ready to add the gold leaf.

Pull the tissue back and turn the book towards the piece.

Rub your fingers over the tissue burnishing the gold leaf onto your piece.
