Winter Twinkle Display Tutorial

I've gotten a bit homesick missing Oklahoma after moving to South Texas. It didn't seem like not having proper seasons would bother me but it does. I miss snuggling in a throw on the sofa with a hot mug of something and turning on the heater for the first time! Knowing good and well that it isn't going to snow here I decided to make my own snowy bit of decor with the added bonus of twinkle lights. Who can resist twinkle lights?

You'll need a deep shadow box for this project.





If you have a Silhouette cutting machine, you can snag free cut files for a good handful of pine trees, moon and stars and "Merry & Bright" in a gorgeous hand lettered font.





Create hills using white clay and buffalo snow.





I just love bottle brushes so they made the perfect "art" pieces to go inside my shadowboxes.





Holes are drilled in foam core board with a power drill and then cleaned up (they look ragged at first) by gently inserting something round to smooth out the edges.





LED twinkle lights are inserted into the openings and the wires taped down to the back of the board. The new back is placed into the frame and taped on to the backside of the wood.





I love how some of the lights are always on and some of they twinkle away! Since I used warm LED lights I think the result is charming and definitely warm. Right now this beauty is hanging out on my bedroom dresser and I watch it while getting sleepy at night!
