Repurposed Cookie Cutter Ornaments

I love vintage cookie cutters. They bring back great memories from my childhood. My mother was an avid baker, and while I didn't inherit her baking gene I did inherit her love of vintage bakeware and cookie cutters.

Today I'll show you how I made some cookie cutter Christmas tree ornaments.





Cookie cutters can be repurposed in so many ways, and I have thrifted bags of them in all shapes and sizes.





To make these you'll need something to decoupage... I'm using Christmas music pages, some Mod Podge and some kind of white glue. I used this Tacky Glue that I thrifted a while back





You'll also need some glitter.





First, drill two holes where you think they should go so you can hang your ornament when it's done. You can also use a hammer and a nail, but you'll have to hammer your holes from the inside.





Then trace around your cookie cutter.





Then simply cut it out. You many need to trim it a bit so it'll fit inside the cookie cutter. It doesn't have to be perfect. You'll see why in a minute.





Here's one I was already working on. Put a thin layer of MP on the inside of the cookie cutter, place the cut-out inside and then cover it with a thin layer of MP. When the first layer is dry add a second.





Once the MP is dry outline the inside edge with a stream of white of tacky glue.





Sprinkle in the glitter colour of your choice, spreading it around to make sure all the white glue gets covered.





Turn the cookie cutter upside down and lightly tap it onto some paper. When all the loose glitter has fallen, gently fold up the paper and pour the excess glitter into a baggie to be reused





Then all you have to do is add your hangers. I love jute twine so I'm using that, but you can use whatever you like.
I'm going for the simple look here and letting the music be the focus, but these could be decorated even further by decoupaging vintage images in them, or adding bits of jewels, or whatever you have on hand.
I made two sets of cookie cutter ornaments using five different colours of glitter... gold, silver, red, green, and white irridescent. These were so fun to make and relatively easy.
