Every December I clean out the kitchen cabinets, making room for baking items I don't normally keep by throwing out any stale dated items.I came across these cans in the back of the cupboard. Let's just say that I missed throwing them out LAST December. They sat there for a few days until inspiration hit.
And then when I was out walking the dog, I came across a good sized piece of birch bark. Took it home and let it dry out. Let cut it into strips and using craft glue, I adhered them to the cans. Adding some elastic bands during the drying process helped secure the bark.
Let it dry overnight and then trim the top and bottom.
I love the rustic look - especially during the holidays - birch bark just seems to light up an arrangement.
I tucked them into a vintage tool caddy along with some greens. Be sure to use battery operated tea lights as the cans are made from paper (even though they are lined with aluminum paper).
