A Christmas Decoration You Can Make With a Child

My granddaughter and I have been making small Christmas decorations. She is 5 and likes to use the scissors and glitter glue.

Here you see the simple cloche we made.

You start with an empty creamer container. Rinse it well, removing all residue. I like to soak a little vinegar in it before the final rinse. If you fill it with water as soon as it's empty, it's easier to clean. I've also used Dollar Store denture cleaner to soak out residue.

The label is simple to remove, as it's only a plastic over wrap - snip one end and peel it off.

A small circle of snow like you can buy at stores during the holidays (not cutting a perfect circle works well here, because it seems to look more like snow). It usually comes in a roll and is very inexpensive. If I hadn't had it, I would have had her cut a small piece of white fleece or other fluffy material. The little car is not vintage - just looks like it is, and is matchbox size. I used a piece of baker's twine I had to tie the little brush tree to the roof of the car - a piece of twine would work too. The little tree had a plastic base that popped right off.

After cutting the dry bottle in half, it formed a cloche shape. We debated about putting the red top back on, but, in the end my granddaughter liked it better with the red plastic ornament from the dollar store (all the ornaments you see here were in a plastic tube of ornaments I bought there).

We put the sparkly red ornament on top and it was time to move on to another project. It was quick, easy and we had fun doing it.
