I admit it, I'm loving the look of mercury glass lately and have been turning all kinds of new glass into beautiful, antique-looking mercury glass, like this cool Mason jar lamp that I made for my kitchen. Not only do I love it for its looks, but I also love the fact that it's so easy to create the look with just a few supplies.Since it's the holiday season, and because I found some stray bulbs floating around in one of our Christmas boxes, I decided to make a fun Christmas banner.
To start this project, and to make it easier, I used an extra piece of styrofoam insulation to "hold" the bulbs so I could spray them.
Then I used Mirror Effect spray to turn those plain bulbs into beauties. I simply sprayed a coat of Mirror Effect, waited about a minute for the paint to set up, then I lightly spritzed the bulbs with a mixture of vinegar water. Repeat these steps if you feel your bulbs need another coat.
Once they were dry I took a length of baker's twine and made a simple knot to slip each bulb in, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
A loop on each end of the twine to hang your banner and your fun and oh-so-cool mercury glass Christmas banner is complete.
The hardest part of this whole project was deciding which room to put them in. I loved them everywhere I hung them!
I guess I'll have to make more for all of the other rooms.
